Here’s the short tale, in my own words, of my DJ career so far…

Andy Taylor – Owner & DJ for Taylor Taylor Mobile Discos

“I remember my first paid DJ gig like it was yesterday. It was in the year 2000 and I was 15 years old; I was asked to DJ a kids’ party in the village next to mine for the princely sum of £30. Unfortunately, it was mainly memorable as we had to stop half way though because the batteries in my sound mixer died. The sound mixer in question cost £5 from a local car boot sale. First lesson of DJ’ing learnt: have the right equipment for the job! Luckily, things have changed somewhat today.

At first (2000-2003), I got gigs once or twice a month by advertising in local post offices, slowing learning the trade. But things started to get interesting around 2003 when I turned 18 and contacted some local entertainment agencies to see if they needed any DJs. The manager of a local agency took me out to some of his gigs for a bit of an on the job apprenticeship. From there I began to move into the wedding market and DJ’ed my first wedding in the summer of 2004. I remember meticulously preparing before hand, making sure I had all the music the bride and groom had requested in advance and making sure I had backup equipment just in case of any problems. I even remember practising exactly what I was going to say on the microphone, “Ladies and Gentlemen, your bride and groom!”. My preparation paid off and all went smoothly on their big day.

My first “big gig”, done, I’ve DJ’ed at parties and weddings almost weekly ever since but also worked at a numerous bars and clubs. My first was an occasional spot The Counting House in Leicester on a Friday nights but my first residency was at Loughborough’s biggest nightclub, Vice Versa, where I worked from 2006 to 2008. I also DJ’ed weekly student night gigs at Templar’s Bar in Nottingham, Mosh in Derby and Mosh in Leicester, at which point I decided to take a break from nightclubs to focus on my day job, teaching.

Since then, I’ve continued to DJ at weddings, parties and corporate events at weekends for some of the biggest DJ agencies in the Midlands, honing my craft and providing a higher quality of service than ever. Most weekends, I can now be found at country manor houses and swanky hotels for wedding receptions, student proms, and of course good old fashioned parties.

I have also completed six years of a Christmas residency at Sketchley Grange Hotel in Burbage, Leicestershire; packing the dance floor at their biggest Christmas party night events, and most recently, last Christmas I took to a new bigger and better Christmas residency at Hoar Cross Hall hotel and luxury spa in Staffordshire.”
